Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula, was published in 1897. It was a great success, and it still can be found on the shelves of libraries everywhere.

The first motion picture versions of Dracula were made in 1921. The only one of these films that can be seen today is Nosferatu, a classic of silent horror. The title means "vampire" in Romanian.

The movie was made by a German, F. W. Murnau. He changed the names of all the characters and changed the places from Transylvania to Germany. Dracula is called Count Orlock. He is shown as an evil inhuman with a bald head, pointed ears, and claw-tipped fingers. Even today, the sight of actor Max Schreck as Orlock is enough to freeze one's blood!
